Hi there...
I was just going through my very long list of tribes, whittling it down a bit. I just can't bear to let this one go, though! How could I ever give up chocolate!
My current little chocolatey treat is something from Trader Joe's - Dark Chocolate Covered Mini Pretzels....they're choco-riffic!

Anyone else have a current favorite?

It's the birthday of Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani, born in Damascus (1923).
His father owned a C H O C O L A T E factory, and he gave money to support the resistance of Syrian guerillas, so he was put in prison on various occasions. When Nizar Qabbani was 15, his older sister committed suicide rather than marry a man she did not love. After that, he devoted his writing to championing romantic love and urging women to break the constraining bonds of the traditional roles Arab society set out for them. He said: "Love in the Arab world is like a prisoner, and I want to set it free. I want to free the Arab soul, sense and body with my poetry."

He published his first book of poetry, The Brunette Told Me (1944), when he was 19 years old. Its erotic poems created a controversy in conservative Syrian society. He went to law school and then became a diplomat, serving in Cairo, Istanbul, Beirut, Madrid, London, and China. He continued to write poetry. He wrote many love poems, like "My Lover Asks Me":

My lover asks me:
"What is the difference between me and the sky?"
The difference, my love,
Is that when you laugh,
I forget about the sky.

His wife was killed in Beirut in 1982 by a bomb set off by pro-Iranian guerillas during the Lebanese civil war. He was devastated, and he blamed "the entire Arab world" for her death. Qabbani left Beirut, moved to Europe, and never remarried.

He continued to be a prolific poet, publishing about 40 volumes over the course of his 50 years of writing. He died from a heart attack at the age of 75.

He wrote:

Light is more important than the lantern,
The poem more important than the notebook,
And the kiss more important than the lips.
My letters to you
Are greater and more important than both of us.
They are the only documents
Where people will discover
Your beauty
And my madness.

Chocolate kisses don't kiss back.
The only way that chocolate will wake you up in the morning is nasty; never pleasant.
Chocolate never goes down on you.
And therefore, you can't 69 chocolate.
Doing the Kama Sutra A to Z with chocolate is no different than not doing it.
Chocolate never wiggles when you lick it.
After eating chocolate, the smell does not stay on you for the rest of the day.
Putting chocolate in restraints is boring.
Spanking chocolate, whether restrained or not, just doesn't work.

Princess Pudding

Adapted from Pure Chocolate by Fran Bigelow.

1-1/4 cups heavy cream (whipping cream)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
5 large egg yolks
6 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
1 ounce milk chocolate, finely chopped
In a saucepan, combine the cream and sugar. With a paring knife, scrape the vanilla seeds from the pod. Add them to the cream mixture and then add the pod as well.
Heat gently, over medium heat, until the cream is barely simmering. Remove from heat.
In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks for a minute. Slowly and carefully add 1/3 of the cream, whisking constantly to prevent the egg from cooking.
Add the egg and cream mixture back into the saucepan and stir to combine.
Return the mixture to medium heat and cook until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of the spoon. If you have a thermometer, the mixture should reach approximately 160 degrees F. This should take anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes.
Remove the mixture from the heat. Remove the vanilla pod and then add the chopped chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
Pour into ramekins, cups or the container of your choice. This is best served at room temperature, but who's to stop you from eating it right out of the pan???!!!
Enjoy!

Apparently you're supposed to wait for it to cool to room temperature. Ha! I say, Ha!

Makes about 2 dozen brownies
•	¾ cup (1½ sticks) unsalted butter
•	4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
•	4 large eggs
•	2 cups granulated sugar
•	¼ cup Kahlúa or other coffee-flavored liqueur
•	1¼ cups all-purpose flour
•	½ teaspoon baking powder
•	½ teaspoon salt
•	Confectioners’ sugar for dusting
•	1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 × 12-inch baking pan.
2. Place the butter and chocolate in a medium microwave-safe bowl; heat in the microwave, covered, for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each interval (about 1½ minutes total), until melted. Alternate method: Place in a bowl over (not in) a pan of boiling water removed from the heat, stirring occasionally, until melted. Set aside to cool.
3. Meanwhile, beat the eggs and sugar with an electric mixer on low speed until pale and lemon-colored. Blend in the Kahlúa and cooled chocolate mixture, beating until smooth.
Add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat on low speed until incorporated; increase the speed to medium and beat just until blended. Don’t overmix! Stir in the chopped nuts, if using.
4. Pour into the pan, smoothing even with a spatula. Bake in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs stuck to it. Cool in the pan before cutting into squares. Dust with confectioners’ sugar.
Homemade Kahlúa
Makes ½ gallon; allow 4 weeks to cure
4 cups sugar
2-ounce jar instant coffee crystals
Fifth of vodka
In a stockpot or 4-quart saucepan, combine the sugar and 4 cups of cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add the coffee crystals a little at a time, stirring until dissolved. Lower the heat and simmer, uncovered, for about 2 hours, until syrupy. Let it cool several hours or overnight, until room temperature. Pour the cooled syrup into a clean glass gallon jug. Add the vodka and swirl gently to blend. Let it stand undisturbed in a cool, dark place for a minimum of 4 weeks.

I am Jacqueline Taylor-Adams and I've developed a stronger love for chocolate, not through food, but from natural body products.

Imagine, sitting next to an aromatherapy soy chocolate mint candle. First, you continually get this wonderful aroma of chocolate mint, then if you choose to light the candle, you can use the oil from the soy to moisturize on your skin!

I use a Heavenly Body Butter [chocolate base] to moisturize my hair and scalp daily. This chocolate is good for you.

TAKE FIVE - Indulge in a decadent moment of chocolate. Grab a box of chocolates, light your soy chocolate mint candle, sit back, pop a piece of chocolate in your mouth, rub a little soy chocolate oil on your skin, close your eyes, and melt away.
